Bold Premier League Predictions for 2017/2018: 1st through 5th

In soccer, there are numerous leagues throughout the world. After all, soccer is the biggest sport in the world because it is played in almost every country, unlike American football. The five biggest leagues are Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, and Calico A. But the Premier League is by far the most popular and tightest. Here are my predictions on the Premier League for this season. Please check out my facebook page and follow my twitter.

1st Place: Manchester United

Most people think that Chelsea or Manchester City will win the Premier League this year, but I think that Manchester United will win it because they have made upgrades this year that might actually perform. Romelu Lukaku scored 25 goals in the Premier League last season for Everton and was probably the only reason why they finished 7th. Without him this year, they will probably finish 12th or lower. But he proved in his first game with Manchester United that he will continue to score, netting 2 in their 4-0 rout of West Ham.

Key Player: Paul Pogba

Another reason why they could win is because Paul Pogba will have a much better season. In his first season at Old Trafford, Pogba might have felt that he had to stay back on defense more because of their lack of defensive midfielders. But with the addition of CDM Nemanja Matic this season, Pogba can stay forward and be the playmaker that Manchester United expected they would get when they bought him last summer. Last season he scored 5 goals in the Prem, but this year he could score 10 and get more assists.

2nd Place: Manchester City

Manchester City will have a lot of expectations this season after being the busiest team in the Premier League in the transfer window. They signed Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy, Ederson, Bernardo Silva, and Douglas Luiz. They will be neck and neck with Manchester United all season, but I think Man U will win the league simply because they will beat Manchester City in head-to-head games.

Key Player: Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne did not have a good season last year, scoring just 6 goals in the Premier League, even though he played 35 of the 38 games. For Manchester City to win games, he needs to start scoring goals consistently, because their strikers cannot do everything.

3rd Place: Arsenal

Arsenal was also busy in the transfer window, but more because of the quality they signed. They obtained Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon. Lacazette scored 129 goals in his career at Lyon, and he will need to keep netting them for Arsenal because Alexis Sanchez may not be returning to the club. They also signed Sead Kolanisic for free, which will help because he could be their starting left back.

Key Player: Mesut Ozil

Lacazette may need to score goals, but he needs someone to pass the ball to him. That would be Ozil. He was a decent goal scorer last season, but on a team like Arsenal, he needs to be one of the players setting up the strikers. If he can make chances for Lacazette and Olivier Giroud, he will be more impactful than he was last season.

4th Place: Chelsea

Chelsea won the league last season, but they didn’t do that much to upgrade their squad, unlike other teams. They signed Alvaro Morato, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Antonio Rudiger. But they sold Nemanja Matic, Juan Cuadrado, Asmir Begovic, and Nathan Ake. And Diego Costa will most likely be leaving the club. Chelsea needs all of their players from last season to play as good as they did to win the league, and that is very hard to do. So I believe that Chelsea will drop down in the table this season.

Key Player: Alvaro Morata

With Costa most likely heading out, Morata needs to step up in the striker role. He scored 15 goals in La Liga last season, but the Premier League is a much more difficult league. He will need to live up to his transfer fee of 65 million euros.

5th Place: Liverpool

Liverpool signed some good talent this summer, including Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, and Dominic Solanke for free. Salah was a great player for Roma, 29 goals in two seasons in Rome. He will be a player to watch for throughout the season.

Key Player: Roberto Firmino

Firmino will need to play well again this season after scoring 11 goals last season. He will also need to play well because he and Daniel Sturridge will be competing for the job of starting striker.

Reports: Barcelona Reach Agreement to Sign Philippe Coutinho

Sources close to Barcelona told ESPN Deportes Jordi Blanco that the Spanish club has acquired the 25-year-old Brazilian Philippe Coutinho from the Premier League side, Liverpool, just five days after they sold superstar Neymar to PSG for a record breaking fee. The Coutinho deal is for about 90 million euros, but it could go up to 120 million euros with bonuses, according to ESPN FC. If Coutinho signs for Barcelona, they could in competition for the La Liga and Champions League trophies, while still making money this summer because of selling Neymar.

Honestly, I don’t think that Barcelona needs Neymar to be the best team in the world. Barcelona already have Messi, who is in every conversation for best player in the world and even in history. They also have Suarez, one of the best strikers in the world. Barça also have Iniesta, Rakitic, Pique, and a team that has competed for European glory for years. The only concern that they should have is that most of their best players are getting old. Messi, Suarez, and Pique are 30; Iniesta is 33; Rakitic is 29. That’s why Coutinho is a great signing because he is young and proven to be a great player in one of the world’s toughest leagues.

Coutinho scored 34 goals and had 29 assists in 138 games for Liverpool last season. His team had a record of 75-29 (without draws) in his  4.5 seasons at Anfield.

UEFA Super Cup Preview: Real Madrid vs. Manchester United

Tomorrow the UEFA Super Cup will be played in Skopje, in the Republic of Macedonia. The UEFA Super Cup is a game played by last season’s winner of the Champions League (Real Madrid) and Europa League (Manchester United). Heres what to watch for in tomorrow’s game, which kicks off at 2:45 EDT on FS1. Make sure you check out my facebook page and follow my twitter.

Season Recap

Real Madrid won a type of treble last season, which is winning 3 competitive trophies. They won the Champions League, La Liga, and Super Cup last year. Their record in La Liga was 29-6-3. (For those unfamiliar with football records, the table reads Wins-Draws-Losses.) Real Madrid finished with 93 points, 3 ahead of second place Barcelona. In the Champions League, Real Madrid finished second in group play with 12 points in 6 games, and the top 2 from every group qualify for the knockout rounds. Borussia Dortmund finished ahead of them with 14 points, and Legia Warsaw and Sporting finished below them with 4 and 3 points respectively.

In the knockout stages until the finals, there are two games played, one at each team’s stadium. Real Madrid won both games 3-1 in the round of 16 vs Napoli from Italy or 6-2 on aggregate. They moved on to the quarterfinals vs Bayern Munich, from Germany, and Real Madrid won that round 6-3 on aggregate. In the semifinals, they played cross-town rivals Athletico Madrid and won 4-2 on aggregate. And in the final, which is just one game, they beat Juventus of Italy 4-1 to become the 2016-2017 UEFA Champions League Winners.

Manchester United came back after a disappointing 2015-2016 season in which they finished 5th in the Premier League. That season wasn’t the worst though because they won the FA Cup. Last season, they won the Community Shield, a game played between the FA Cup winner and Premier League winner from the previous season, and they won the Europa League and EFL Cup. They finished 6th in the Premier League, but their success was more in tournaments than the EPL. In the Europa League, they finished second in their group with 12 points, one behind Fenerbahce Sk. In the knockout stages, they beat Saint-Etienne of France 4-0 on aggregate to advance to the round of 16. They beat Rostov of Russia 2-1 on aggregate to move to the quarters. There they just beat Anderlecht of Belgium 3-2 on aggregate. In the semifinals, they beat Celta Vigo of Spain 2-1 on aggregate, and in the 1 game final vs. Ajax of Netherlands, they won 2-0.

Game Preview

Manchester United have not announced their lineup yet, but they have said on twitter that Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, and Marcos Rojo will miss the game through injury, and Phil Jones and Eric Bailly will miss it through suspension. Real Madrid did announce their lineup though. It is:

I predict that Real Madrid will win 3-2 with Ronaldo scoring twice and Bale once for Real Madrid, and Lukaku and Rashford scoring for Manchester United. The reason Real Madrid will win is that they have not yet had a great preseason so they will really want to get the new season started with a win and they will probably put out a better squad than Manchester United.

Rooney Joining Boyhood Team Everton

Wayne Rooney is back in Liverpool, where he grew up as a kid and started his professional soccer career.

The 31-year-old striker/midfielder will return to Everton for an undisclosed fee after 13 years with Manchester United. The Englishman scored 253 goals in 559 appearances for Man U. Rooney joined Everton at age 9, and was the second youngest player in club history to make his first senior appearance when he debuted on August 17, 2002.

Rooney said this on Twitter:

He also thanked Manchester United:

Lukaku Is Signing With Manchester United!

Romelu Lukaku will be playing at a new club next year. The Belgian striker will be sent to Old Trafford after Manchester United agreed to a 75 million euro transfer fee, according to sources close to Old Trafford. The 24-year-old has scored 71 goals in 133 games with Everton. Lukaku was originally expected to sign with Chelsea this summer and return to his first Premier League team, but he ended up signing with Man U.

Man U’s manager, Jose Mourinho was Lukaku’s manager when he played for Chelsea, and they could be on good terms because of that connection. Now Manchester United could have a better season in the Premier League and could make a run in the Champions League.

Transfer Rumors: Manchester United Close to Signing Matic? Giroud to West Ham?

Today we will be talking about some of the Transfer Rumors around soccer that could send players to different clubs and change lineups. These deals could happen, but we will have to wait until the deal is officially done or called off.

Matic to Old Trafford

Reports have come out recently that Nemanja Matic could be leaving Chelsea to sign with Manchester United this week. The 28-year-old  Serbian CDM could be moving from London to Manchester if a deal works out. ESPN FC report that the deal could be worth about $45 million. Matic could be pushed out because Chelsea is close to signing Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco. Matic could be the CDM that Manchester United have been looking for since they sold Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton in January for $27 million.

Olivier Giroud to West Ham or Lyon?

Olivier Giroud could be moving to the French League or another London Premier League team after the French striker only played a small role in Arsenals 2016-2017 campaign. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said he is unlikely to transfer. Lyon acquired  Bertrand Traore from Chelsea, and now they might not be confident in spending money on players until later in the transfer window. However, West Ham strikers only scored 16 goals in all competitions last year, and Giroud scored the same amount. West Ham needs a striker, and Giroud could be the man for the job.

Confirmed Transfer: Salah to Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has transferred to Liverpool from Roma for $47.7 million dollars. Salah is an Egyptian right winger who spent 1 year at the club. He has also played for FC Basel, Chelsea, Arab Contractors FC, and Fiorentina. He will arrive for Liverpool on July 1st.

My Favorite Anything : Premier League Club

My favorite Premier League Club is Manchester United because they have lots of superstars on their team and they always sign a world class player during the transfer window.

Top Players

3.  Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Right Winger

2.  Paul Pogba, Midfield

How Does The English Soccer System Work?

I have not talked about soccer much, but today we will be looking at how the English soccer system works.

The Basics

There are 4 pro leagues in England, each of them with about 20 teams. The highest league is the Premier League, followed by the English League Championship, then the EFL One and the lowest is the EFL Two.

There are 24 teams in the EFL Two, and to get promoted to the EFL One, you have to finish in the top 7. The top 3 get automatic promotion, while 4-7 play in the playoffs, where the winner gets a promotion. Click here for the teams in the league

Currently, Doncaster Rovers are in first place in EFL Two, while Leyton Orient  are in the last place

There are also 24 teams in the EFL One and the top 2 get automatic promotion to English League Championship. Once again, click here for the list of teams. This season, Sheffield United are first, while Coventry City are last.

English League Championship

Once again, there are 24 teams in the English League Championship and the top 2 get automatic promotion to the Premier League. 3-6 play in a playoff and the winner gets promotion to the Premier League. Click here for a list of teams. This season, Newcastle United are first while Rotherham United are last.

Premier League

The Premier League has 20 teams, and the top 4 qualify for the UEFA Champions League in the next season, while the 5th team qualifies for the UEFA Europa Cup. Click here for the list of Premier League teams. UEFA Champions League and Europa Cup are competitions including many European countries. In the Premier League table, Chelsea are currently first, while Sunderland are at the bottom of the table.

In the top 3 leagues, you will get relegated if you are at the bottom of the table (i.e. standings). In the Premier League, you will get demoted if you are in the bottom 3. In the Championship, you will get demoted if you are in the bottom 3. And in the EFL One, you will get demoted if you are in the bottom 4.
